The Karol Kurpiński Music Society in Włoszakowice

About Us – Heritage and the Present

The Karol Kurpiński Music Society in Włoszakowice is a public benefit organization that has been a cornerstone of the region’s cultural life for over half a century. Founded in 1976 in the birthplace of Karol Kurpiński, it brings together musicians, musicologists, educators, and all those who cherish the beauty of Polish musical culture.

Our activities extend beyond the local level—we are a prominent fixture on the country’s cultural map, ensuring that the legacy of our patron, the founder of the national opera and composer of the music for *Warszawianka*, remains alive in the hearts of today’s audiences.

The Society's Authorities and Board of Directors

Transparency and commitment are the cornerstones of our work. The association is governed by the Board of Directors, elected by the General Assembly of Members. It consists of recognized cultural activists and community leaders who, through their work (often on a volunteer basis), ensure the advancement of the Society’s statutory goals.

  • CEO: Stanisław Waligóra
  • Vice President: Halina Drgas
  • Secretary: Elżbieta Torczyńska Drobnik
  • Treasurer: Urszula Drożdżyńska
  • Members of the Board: Prof. Zdzisław Nowak, Prof. Mikołaj Rykowski, Prof. Paweł Drobnik, Dr. Paweł Kroczek, Julia Bajon.

The Audit Committee oversees the association's activities.

Statutory Objectives and Activities

In accordance with our bylaws, the Society focuses on three key areas:

1. Heritage preservation: Managing and expanding the Karol Kurpiński Memorial Chamber in collaboration with the Municipal Cultural Center. We collect unique publications, documents, and artifacts related to the Romantic era.

2. Promoting young talent: Organizing National Competitions for Young Musicians (which include the following events held every three years: Academic Clarinet Competitions, Polonaise Competitions, and Song and Aria Competitions), enabling outstanding students to launch their careers.

3. Cultural Outreach: Organizing concerts and popular science sessions that introduce the history of Polish music to a wider audience.

4. The Society has been awarded the Gloria Artis Medal by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in Warsaw.

Collaboration and Partners

The Society’s strength lies in its relationships. For years, we have enjoyed a fruitful partnership with:

  • The Local Government of the Municipality of Włoszakowice
  • Music academies throughout Poland, particularly the Academy of Music in Poznań
  • Local educational institutions and the media.

Thanks to the support of our partners and donors, we are able to carry out projects on a scale that goes beyond the standard activities of regional associations.
